The best way to get whiter teeth is by taking good care of your oral hygiene, by getting professional cleaning regularly and professional dental whitening.

But did you know you can also facilitate your pearly whites by eating certain foods that are proven to be good for your teeth.

Here a list of foods that you should consume for good and healthy oral gums and teeth.

1.         Strawberries

      High malic acid content.

This works with the similar action of a natural astringent.

This is also found in certain toothpastes and help in brightening the teeth by removing the outer discolored layer of teeth.

Tip: But strawberries also contain citric acid that makes the enamel weak. So, you should wait at least 30 minutes before you brush your teeth after eating such acidic foods.

2. Apples, Celery and Carrots

Such crunchy and hard fruits and vegetables like apples, carrots and celery scrubs away the plaque and bacteria.

They also stimulate adequate saliva production.

They fulfils vitamin and mineral deficiencies to strengthen your teeth.

3. Leafy Greens

Spinach, romaine lettuce, iceberg lettuce and kale contain iron, folic acid/ Vitamin B9.

Vitamin B9 helps to maintain cell growth and repair. Further, it helps to reduce inflammation in the gums.

Also, it makes teeth more resilient to plaque and calculus.

4. Cheese

Enamel eroding due to sugary and sticky foods cause exposure of the dentin layer. This causes teeth to look yellow.

   Calcium is found in cheese.

Calcium makes enamel and bones strong.

Casein, milk protein also found in cheese helps repair enamel.

Additionally, chewing increases the production of saliva which helps in the cleansing action of the mouth.

 5. Sugar-free Gum

Chewing sugar-free gum between meals and snacks causes saliva production.

This stabilizes and washes away acids in your mouth.

This also removes food particles out of teeth crevices and places hard to reach by toothbrush.

6. Water

Water displaces fizzy sugary drinks that cause tooth decay and weakens the enamel.

In addition, water has proteins and minerals like fluoride that help prevent tooth destruction and protects gums and teeth.

Swish your mouth with water after you eat or drink sugar and pigment-rich foods or fluids to maintain a brighter, whiter smile.

 7. Baking Soda

A good alternative to toothpaste is baking soda. Due to its alkalinity and mild abrasiveness, baking soda helps wash away plaque from the tooth's surface and eliminate tooth discoloration.

Tip: Mix baking soda and water to make a paste, and apply it to your toothbrush, like toothpaste. Then brush for two minutes.

A brighten and whiter smile to you.
